K-Town in Los Angeles is the closest thing to Korea you can get without going to Seoul, thanks to its 24-hour party culture, mega-spas, and tremendous cuisine diversity. You can get whatever you need in this area, from specialty cosmetics to an excellent plate of congee.
Of course, there are many places to visit, but we've selected some of our favorites: a tried-and-true dive bar, several must-see KBBQ joints, a couple of reliable spas, and, of course, a beauty emporium. Listed below are some of the places we recommend seeing in K-Town.
The intestines at Ahgassi Gopchang, a KBBQ joint with a somewhat more refined atmosphere than its competitors, are among the best in the city. During some KBBQ fans like to fire up the grill themselves, we do all the work for you. You may stop wondering and start enjoying your Hite.
The slate gray and wood combination marks A Look at This Your personal sanctum. Everything from the taxidermy on the walls to the penny tiles on the floor to the trendy cookbooks on the bookcases gives the space an air of easy cool. All in all, though, things work out beautifully. The cuisine is seasonal and boasts big, robust tastes as varied as the city of Los Angeles. You can go right with anything you order, but if you have to choose, go with the fermented rice porridge.
At Park's, you'll find black tables, chairs, and silver grill hoods for a sleek, modern look. You didn't come for the runway, though; you came for the steak, and it's some of the best in town. Indulge in the pricey combinations; the P1 includes three types of meat and as much banchan as you can eat. American wagyu is another great option if you're willing to spend a bit more. The japchae glass noodles are a great choice if you want to go all out.
The Normandie Club at the Hotel Normandie will transport you to Chicago when you step inside. Plush black banquettes are ideal for big parties and a fantastic horseshoe bar for those who prefer to travel solitarily. The classics are done well on the menu, and an entire section is devoted to the Martini. There's nothing to eat here, but if you're staying at the Hotel Normandie, you'd be foolish not to visit Cassell's for the greatest tuna melt you've ever had.
You should plan on waiting if you want to eat at the KBBQ institution Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong, especially on the weekends. But the moment you step foot inside this porky castle, your jaw will drop. The meats here are practically unparalleled in quality. Dosirak, and all sorts of delights shaken tableside is a must-have addition to any meal. The cheesy corn, a must-have at any KBBQ, and the banchan are excellent.
Wi Spa is the closest thing to the Korean or Hungarian spa experience you can get in the United States. There are separate floors for men and women with various soaking tubs, a café counter, a workout facility, an outdoor patio, and even a kids' area, making this complex one of the largest of its kind in the world. It's mind-blowing but in the best possible manner. Don't forget to schedule some time for lunch before or after your appointment; this is a great spot to get some cheap and filling Korean soups and noodles.
One of the city's oldest bars, HMS Bounty, features a nautical motif and cheap drinks. There will be leathery women camped out in the corner and crusty men bellying up to the bar. This place is a refreshing change from the posh clientele of nearby cocktail lounges. Don't even think about eating here; we're a drinking establishment only. Beers and whisky in hand, we set out for one of the numerous nearby KBBQ joints.
This facility, owned by the Sydell Group, is an adult playground in the middle of K-Town. Every so often, a Michael Jackson lookalike will perform on a temporary stage at Break Room 86. People looking for a place to have brunch throughout the day often visit Openaire, a restaurant housed in a massive greenhouse next to the pool. On the weekends, the lobby transforms into a live dance party with DJs and a design store from the people at Poketo.
